Information on Travel Restrictions

Updated: May 3, 2021

Dear Constituent,

I want to share some important information with constituents related to some of the new travel measures being implemented. This is in addition to my monthly e-newsletter as many constituents have reached out with questions and this is very time sensitive. Please feel free to share this information with those who might be affected.

As of February 15th, the Government of Canada has announced new restrictions surrounding international travel by both air and land.

Travelers crossing through land borders will be required to obtain a negative PCR test upon arrival in Canada.

As of February 22nd, air travellers will also be required to reserve, prior to arrival in Canada, a three-night stay in a government-authorized hotel. Travelers will be able to book their government-authorized hotel stay starting February 18, 2021. Upon arrival, travelers will be tested and once they receive their negative result, they can continue the rest of their 14-day quarantine at home or approved quarantine location. If a traveller tests positive, they will be transferred to a government run quarantine facility.

All travelers, whether arriving by land or air will be required to submit their travel and contact information, including a suitable quarantine plan, electronically via ArriveCAN before crossing the border or boarding a flight.

There are exceptions and exemptions, however there is limited clarity on those who will qualify for those (exceptions include essential workers).

The Government of Canada is continuing to encourage you to postpone or cancel any non-essential travel during this time.

These restrictions are constantly evolving. To get the most recent news regarding travel restrictions please visit here.

Please note this is in addition to previously announced measure related to the requirement for a PCR test being required before entry (find more info here).
